TiARA welcomes our new committee members, Associate Professor Alice Lee, Dr Alice Grey and Dr Alexander Gofton
TiARA is pleased to welcome our new committee members, Associate Professor Alice Lee, Dr Alice Grey and Dr Alexander Gofton. We look forward to their valuable contributions and expertise in supporting TiARA’s ongoing work and initiatives.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR ALICE LEE
PhD
Associate Professor Alice Lee is a leading food scientist and allergy researcher at the University of New South Wales, with more than 20 years’ experience in food chemistry, food safety, and allergen research. Her work focuses on how food processing influences allergenic proteins and immune responses, bridging food science, engineering, and molecular allergology.
She has published over 80 peer-reviewed papers and developed more than 35 rapid immunodiagnostic tests supporting clinical and industrial allergen detection. Associate Professor Lee is Chief Investigator of the OPIA clinical trial at Children’s Hospital at Westmead, examining immune responses to oral immunotherapy, and is an Associate Investigator with the NHMRC Centre for Food Allergy Research.
She is a member of the National Allergy Centre of Excellence Food Allergy Stream Advisory Group and supervises research into tick-induced mammalian meat allergy (alpha-gal allergy), contributing to emerging understanding of this complex condition.
Internationally, Associate Professor Lee contributes to global allergen policy and risk assessment as part of the FAO/WHO Joint Expert Consultation on Food Allergen Risk Assessment, helping shape international standards for allergen management and food labelling.

DR ALICE GREY
BA (Hons I) LLB (Hons I) MBBS (Hons I) FRACP FRCPA
Dr Alice Grey is a Clinical Immunologist and Immunopathologist based in Sydney, currently appointed as a Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital. She is also a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney.
Dr Grey holds Fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Clinical Immunology & Allergy and Immunopathology. She has a strong background in both clinical medicine and research, with contributions spanning immune responses to infectious diseases, diagnostic assay development, and complex immunological disorders.
In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr Grey has held numerous leadership and advisory roles across medical education, training, and health system governance. She is currently a member of the National Allergy Centre of Excellence Insect Allergy Stream Advisory Committee, contributing to national efforts to improve allergy awareness, research, and patient outcomes.
DR ALEXANDER GOFTON
PhD
Dr Alexander Gofton is a Senior Research Scientist with CSIRO in Health & Biosecurity, specialising in the genomics and ecology of tick-borne pathogens. His research focuses on understanding the diversity, evolution, and transmission of pathogens carried by ticks, with direct relevance to emerging human health risks in Australia.
Dr Gofton has authored more than 45 scientific publications and is widely recognised for his work using advanced genomic and metagenomic approaches to identify and characterise novel tick-borne pathogens. His research has contributed to a deeper understanding of the complex interactions between ticks, wildlife, and humans, supporting improved surveillance and risk assessment of tick-borne diseases.
He is a member of the National Allergy Centre of Excellence Food Allergy Stream Advisory Group.
In addition to his research role, he is an Adjunct Lecturer at The University of Queensland and Australian National University, and actively contributes to the scientific community as a peer reviewer and journal editor.
