Dr Andrew Ratchford is currently the Director of Emergency Medicine at Mona Vale District Hospital, Sydney. He has worked previously in the North East of England and London as a consultant in Emergency Medicine and for the Helicopter Emergency Medicine Service in London treating critically injured adults and children. He is a co-author of “What to Do When Your Child Gets Sick- the essential emergency manual for parents and carers”. He teaches Advanced Life Support for adults and children both in Australia and overseas (Cambodia, Fiji and Sri Lanka), and is one of the Directors of the Australian Institute of Clinical Education. Andy is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney. The Emergency staff at Mona Vale Hospital have resuscitated countless people with either or both mammalian meat anaphylaxis and tick anaphylaxis, and due to the proximity to the local national parks see a high proportion of tick related ED presentations.
